I love to bake, but I don't like to eat - if that makes sense. Also, nothing to seafood here, move along!

I am a picky eater. I won't deny it and I won't be ashamed of it. I spent my formidable youth apologizing for it, being embarrassed about it, and trying to hide it. I refuse to do any of that anymore. Ok, well, at least I have learned to actually try new things once in a while. And once in a while I find something new to like. But not often.

Let's see, what do I not eat? I guess it would be easier to ask what I DO eat. I like chicken. A lot. Chicken is the picky person's best friend. It can be seasoned in so many ways - dry rubs, marinades - and it can be cooked in just as many ways - fried, baked, grilled. If a restaurant offers chicken tenders, you can be assured I will be ordering them. My boys are the same way, and my boyfriend thinks it's hilarious. He doesn't get it, obviously.

I dislike onions. And peppers. Pretty much any vegetables (raw carrots, yes - cooked carrots, God NO). You can forget about seafood. ANY seafood. When people ask me if I like seafood and I mention that I don't mind the occasional tuna fish sandwich (mayo, ONLY - no Miracle Whip for this gal), they laugh in my face as though I don't understand that I am hands down the weirdest person they've ever met. They have no idea, and I am not about to tell them.

I like some sweets. Cookies are good, as long as you hold the nuts. Brownies - eh, I could take them or leave them. Cake has never been my favorite. Try being the birthday child who didn't like cake, or going to my friends' birthday parties and refusing the cake ("that's Laurie's friend, Cassie, she doesn't like cake" the parents would whisper, as if I was the strange child who dismembers her dolls).

"I think the cooking and the clean up after is right up there with getting a mammogram. Painful, and you wish it wasn't necessary, but it's all part of survival."

I love to bake. I think I am pretty good at it - at least I have been told that I am. My ex-husband always used to say that I was an excellent baker, but that I couldn't cook to save my life! He wasn't wrong. I think if you enjoy something, you tend to be good at it. I don't hate cooking, it just isn't as fun to me. I think the cooking and the clean up after is right up there with getting a mammogram. Painful, and you wish it wasn't necessary, but it's all part of survival.

So, what you will find here are recipes for the foods that I do like. There will be some sweets, some apps, a few dinner ideas. It's definitely going to be a work in progress, but also a lot of fun. Except the dinners. And if you're looking for a seafood recipe, you'll have to look elsewhere.
